Sadly, this note with be shorter than those of her sisters’ as there isn’t a lot to go on, and much of this is speculation. I will note what is speculation with bold italics.






 Sept 15, 1859, possibly in Arlington, TX near Village Creek or Handley. Victoria Belle Christman is born to Mary Elizabeth Barnes and possibly Daniel Christman or Cristman.





1860-1862, possibly in Arlington, TX. Belle Christman has a brother/sister.


Aug 20, 1861, Waxahachie, TX. Belle’s possible father Daniel Cristman (age 29) enlists as a private in the 12th Texas Cavalry, Co H (Ellis Blues). Later that year he was discharged at Camp Tarrant which is in Mansfield, TX. This is close to where Belle’s family lived.






 Oct 28, 1861, Hempstead, TX. Belle’s possibly father is mustered in at Camp Herbert.


 May 25, 1862. Belle’s possible father is camped at Little Rock, AR.


Aug 31, 1863. Arkansas?  Last record that I have of Belle’s possible father.


After Aug, 1863. Arkansas? Belle’s possible father is killed in action per TXGenWeb. I am trying to obtain those records that show when and where he was killed.




After 1863. TX or AR, possibly in Tarrant County, TX. Belle’s mother Mary E Barnes Christman is wed to Mr Thomas, possibly Lafayette B Thomas, a private in the same regiment at Dan Christman. Lafayette or simply Fayette had been furloughed in 1863. He did not die during the war per later recollections of his piers. Mr Thomas was a native of Missouri.




 Aug 5, 1865, possibly in Tarrant County, TX or Brazos County, TX  or possibly in Arkansas. Belle’s half sister Anna Georgia Thomas is born, known as Annie.


1866-1869, TX. Belle and Annie 1866-1869, TX. Belle and Annie possibly have another sibling.


By 1869. Belle’s family has moved to Brazos County, TX or near there.


July 1, 1869, Brazos County, TX. Belle’s mother Mary weds Jeptha Norton Garrett.


1870. The family lives near Caldwell, TX. The family at this time is Jeptha Garrett, Mary Barnes Garrett, Jeptha’s daughters Mary and Eugenia, Belle, Annie.


Oct 14, 1871, near Caldwell, TX. Belle’s half sister Laura Gertrude Garrett is born.


Dec 19, 1871. near Caldwell, TX. Belle’s step sister Mary Evelyn Garrett is wed to William Haire.


April 1872, near Caldwell, TX. Belle’s half sister Fannie El Dorado Garrett is born.


May 1873, Caldwell, TX. Dove Baptist Church records mention Belle’s step sister Eugenia Garrett as a member.


About 1874. The family moves to Florence, TX.


April 4, 1875 in Florence, TX. Belle’s half sister Ella Norton Garrett is born. Ella’s birth name was possibly Vella.


About this time and place Belle Christman may have first been introduced to future husband Archibald Lamb who had at least one Uncle in the Florence area.


Belle Between 1876-1878. Florence or Georgetown, TX. Belle possibly had another half brother/sister.


Between 1874 and 1878 Belle’s step father Jeptha may have died, though I can’t count out the possibility of divorce.


March 10, 1878 in Bell County, TX. Belle’s step sister Eugenia Garrett weds Benjamin F Essary.


March 14, 1878 in Georgetown, TX. Belle’s mother weds for the 4th time to James A Mitchell, a native of Scotland.


July 19, 1878 in Round Rock, TX. Belle’s Uncle John Seaborn Barnes is shot and killed.


It is possible that the family moves to Stockton, CA about this time. Belle Christman is the only one to stay behind. She moves to Austin, TX. Belle has presumably been engaged by this time to Archibald Lamb.


Aug 11, 1878 in Stockton CA. Belle’s step sister Mrs Mary E (Garrett) Haire is wed to Charles L Weitz.


June 1, 1880 in Austin, TX. Belle Christman lives on Mesquite street and works as a servant.


June 7, 1880 in Coleman County, TX. Belle’s step sister Eugenia Essary is widowed, living with another family and works as there cook.


June 15 1880. Stockton CA. Belle’s mother and family live in the old Gambetta addition of Stockton. With them is Jeptha Garrett’s brother Isaiah Garrett.


Sept 15, 1880. Austin, TX. Belle “VB” Christman weds Archibald “A.” Lamb.


 Oct 1880, an advertisement for Belle’s services runs in Austin papers still using her maiden name of Christman. Note: this is either an add for her services as a servant or it could be a notification of mail received, possibly a letter from California, for example.

About 1880-1881. Belle and Archibald move to Falls County, TX. They lived in an area called North Blue Ridge, later called Stranger, TX.


Between 1878-1880. Probably in Stockton? Belle possibly has another half sibling.


1881. Belle’s step sister Eugenia Essary moves to Stockton.


April 16, 1881 in Stockton, CA. Belle’s half sister Marguerite Estelle Mitchell is born.


May 31, 1881. Falls County, TX. Belle has a son named Claudius Lamb.


June 8, 1881. Belle’s son Claudius dies.


June 22, 1881 in Stockton. Belle’s step sister Eugenia marries Pardon A. Davis.


April 21, 1882 in Stockton. Belle’s step father James A Mitchell dies.


June 11, 1882 in Stranger, TX. Belle has a daughter named Maudie Elizabeth Lamb.


June 5, 1884 in Stranger, TX. Belle has a daughter named Minnie Tabitha Lamb.


Jan 31, 1886 in Stranger, TX. Belle has a son named Archibald Clarence Lamb.


Aug 5, 1887 in Stranger, TX. Belle’s son Archibald dies.


1888, Stockton, CA. Belle’s mother Mary E Mitchell and family live at 253 Washington Street in the old Gambetta addition. Mary’s occupation at the time is dressmaker.


Dec 22, 1888 in Stranger, TX. Belle has a son named Charles Luther Lamb (possibly a twin).


March 17, 1889 in Stranger, Falls County, TX. Belle Christman Lamb dies, age 29.




Belle was most likely buried at either Stranger Baptist Church Cemetery or Blue Ridge Baptist Chrurch Cemetery.
